5th International Conference on

Unsolved Problems on Noise

and Fluctuations in Physics, Biology & High Technology
École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (France), June 2-6, 2008

Upon 2008, the 5th edition of the conference on Unsolved Problems on Noise, will be held in Lyon (France) on June 2 to 6, 2008. The aim of the UPoN conferences is to provide a forum for researchers working on noise and fluctuations, where they can present and discuss their scientific problems which do resist solutions. These unsolved problems need a more thorough, more open-minded, and less biased treatment than the presentation of solved problems typical in the publications of the standard literature.
Main topics covered
1. Applications of noise in measurements, technologies and informatics
2. Biological noise
3. Crackling noise
4. Noise in complex and non-linear systems
5. Noise in materials and devices
6. Quantum noise and coherence
7. Theoretical trends in fluctuations
Invited speakers, presenting a general outline of what are, according to them, the main open problems in noise and fluctuations in their area of expertise, include : Roberto Benzi, Hélène Bouchiat, Bernard Castaing, Karen Dahmen, Mark Dykman, Holger Kantz, Benjamin Lindner and Eric Vanden-Eijnden.
